Pediatric Care

The starting point for your child’s therapy — assessment by a pediatrician, referral to the right program, and follow-up reviews that keep care on track

Overview

A pediatric consultation is where your child’s care begins. Our pediatrician assesses your child, decides which therapy will help — physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, or our Cerebral Palsy Program — and stays involved through follow-up reviews as that therapy progresses.

A pediatric consultation is an appointment with a pediatrician who assesses your child and decides what kind of therapy, if any, will help. It is the first step before physiotherapy, occupational therapy, or speech and language therapy — the point where a child’s needs are identified and matched to the right program.

Children are referred to us for many reasons. Some are meeting milestones late, or having trouble with movement, coordination, speech, or everyday tasks. Others arrive with a diagnosis already made and need a plan for the therapy that follows. The consultation serves both: it works out what is going on and turns it into a clear course of treatment.

Our pediatricians work inside a specialist rehabilitation hospital, alongside the therapy teams themselves. That means assessment and treatment are not separate journeys. When your child is referred to a therapy, they are referred to a team down the corridor, working from the same assessment — not to an outside clinic with a letter in hand.

Book a consultation if:
• Your child is late to sit, crawl, walk, or speak
• You have concerns about their movement, coordination, posture, balance, or muscle tone
• They have difficulty with speech, language, feeding, or swallowing
• They struggle with everyday tasks — dressing, eating, playing, handwriting — in ways their peers do not
• They have a diagnosis, such as cerebral palsy, and need a therapy plan
• They have been discharged from a hospital stay and need therapy to continue at home
• They are already under our care and are due for a review

If you are unsure whether therapy is what your child needs, that is exactly what the consultation is for.

After assessment, our pediatrician refers your child to whichever program fits. All four are delivered at Cambridge, by the teams your pediatrician works alongside.

Physiotherapy. For difficulties with movement, strength, balance, posture, or gait — whether after injury or surgery, or with conditions affecting muscle tone and coordination. Referred when a child’s challenges are primarily physical.

Occupational therapy. For independence in the everyday activities that make up a child’s day — dressing, eating, play, handwriting, school participation — and for sensory and coordination difficulties. Referred when a child struggles to do, rather than to move.

Speech & language therapy. For communication, and for feeding and swallowing — covering expressive and receptive language, articulation, and difficulties that follow developmental conditions or brain injury. Referred when the difficulty is with understanding, being understood, or eating safely.

Cerebral Palsy Program. Intensive neuro-rehabilitation using the Kozyavkin Method — the first program of its kind in the GCC. Referred for children with cerebral palsy who need a structured, dedicated pathway rather than a single therapy.
